More and more people ask AI assistants instead of searching in Google. These two sections show how many visitors reach you through AI and how often AI mentions you.
1. AI traffic
Open SEO, AI, AI traffic.
What it measures
- Click-throughs from AI: visitors who reach your site from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, Claude and similar assistants.
- AI crawlers: visits from the bots AI companies use to read websites, such as GPTBot and PerplexityBot.
How it is measured
- Via the Metrara plugin on WordPress. The plugin measures on your server, without cookies, and also counts AI crawlers. See WordPress: install the Metrara plugin.
- Via Google Analytics, for comparison. Analytics only counts click-throughs and misses visitors who block cookies.
The plugin only stores daily counts per source: no IP addresses or personal data.
No figures yet? The plugin starts measuring on the day you install it. Expect a few days to a week before the first visits appear. Check your cache plugin settings as described in the plugin guide.
2. AI visibility
Open SEO, AI, AI visibility. This section is available to agency users.
AI visibility next to your competitors
- Click Measure.
- Metrara checks how often your domain and up to five competitors appear in answers from Google AI Overviews and ChatGPT.
- You see your share of all mentions, the trend for your own domain and which sources AI mentions most often.
A measurement costs 2 credits. Tick Measure automatically every month to repeat it monthly; this is off by default.
AI mentions
Click Fetch AI mentions to see in which AI answers your site is cited as a source, per question and per platform. This costs 2 credits.
3. Tips
- Add competitors on the Competitors tab first, so AI visibility can compare you.
- Pages that AI cites often have clear answers, structured headings and FAQ sections.
