Security and devices

Protect your account with a strong password and two-factor authentication. You also see on which devices you are signed in.

On this page

1. Change your password

  1. Click your account icon at the top right and choose Settings.
  2. Open Security.
  3. Under Change password, fill in Current password, New password and Repeat password.
  4. Click Save password.

Your password needs at least 8 characters. When it is saved, you see Your password has been changed.

2. Two-factor authentication

With two-factor authentication (2FA) you enter a code from an authenticator app each time you log in, in addition to your password. It is optional and applies to your own login only.

Turn on 2FA

  1. Go to Settings › Security.
  2. Under Two-factor authentication (2FA), click Set up 2FA.
  3. Scan the QR code with your authenticator app. Can't scan? Enter the key shown under the QR code manually.
  4. Enter the 6-digit code from the app and click Confirm.

The block now shows 2FA is on. Click Cancel during setup to stop without turning it on.

Log in with 2FA

  1. Enter your email address and password and click Log in.
  2. Under Verification code, enter the 6-digit code from your authenticator app.
  3. Click Confirm.

Turn off 2FA

Go to Settings › Security and click Disable next to 2FA is on.

3. Backup codes

Backup codes get you in when you lose the phone with your authenticator app. Each code works once.

  1. Go to Settings › Security. Two-factor authentication must be on.
  2. Click Create backup codes.
  3. Store the ten codes somewhere safe, for example in your password manager. They are shown only once.

Create new backup codes replaces the old ones.

To sign in with a backup code, click Lost your app? Use a backup code at the verification code step. After that, two-factor authentication is off and you get an email; turn it on again under Settings › Security.

4. Devices

Your account works on at most two devices at a time. One login is meant for one person.

  1. Go to Settings › General.
  2. Click Devices.

You see how many devices are in use, for example 2 of 2 devices in use, with the device name, browser and when it was last seen. The device you are using now is marked this device.

Signing in on a third device

When you sign in on a third device, the device you have not used the longest is logged out. The next time someone opens Metrara there, they return to the login page.

Sign off another device

Click Sign off next to the device. It is logged out on its next visit and has to log in again. You cannot sign off the device you are using now.

A device that was logged out sees a message on the login page explaining why.

5. Log out

Click your account icon at the top right and choose Log out. This logs you out on this device only. On your other device you stay signed in.

Forgot your password

  • On the login page, click Forgot password?.
  • Enter your Email address and click Send recovery email.
  • Open the email and click the link. The link works on any device.
  • Enter a New password, repeat it and click Save password.

You then go straight to your dashboard. For privacy, Metrara always shows the same confirmation, whether or not an account exists for that address. No email received? Check your spam folder or try a different email address.

6. Your email address

Your login email address is shown under Settings › General › Account, under Email address.

To change it:

  1. Click Change email address.
  2. Fill in the New email address and your Current password.
  3. Click Send confirmation link.
  4. Open the email at the new address and click Confirm email address within one hour.

Your old address gets a notice. After confirming, you sign in with the new address and your existing password. For personal preferences such as language and text size, see Personal settings.
