Find the message you see in the Google block under Manage › Access keys (client users: Connections).
1. "Connecting to Google failed. Please try again and choose Allow."
Google did not grant access. You clicked Cancel on Google's screen, did not allow a permission, or something went wrong on the way back.
- Click Continue with Google again.
- Choose the Google account that has access to your Analytics property and Search Console site.
- Allow every permission Google asks for. If Google shows checkboxes, tick all of them.
- You return to Metrara with Connected to Google. Now choose your property and site.
For the full steps, see Google Analytics and Search Console.
2. "The connection was started from a different address than where Google returns to..."
Metrara could not confirm that you started this connection. This happens when you started from another web address than your normal dashboard address, when your browser blocks cookies, or when more than 10 minutes passed on Google's screens.
- Open Metrara via your normal dashboard address.
- Go back to Manage › Access keys (client users: Connections).
- Click Continue with Google and finish the Google steps within 10 minutes.
- If it still fails, allow cookies for the Metrara domain and try again.
3. "This Google account has no Analytics properties."
The Google account you connected has no access to any Google Analytics 4 property. Only Google Analytics 4 properties are listed.
- Check which account is connected. The block shows Connected to Google as followed by the email address.
- If this is the wrong account, click Disconnect, confirm, and click Continue with Google with the right account.
- If it is the right account, ask the owner of the Analytics property to add this email address as a user. In Google Analytics this is under Admin, Access management. The Viewer role is enough.
- Reload the page in Metrara. The property now appears under Analytics property.
4. "This Google account has no Search Console sites."
The connected Google account has no verified access to a Search Console property. Properties where the account is only listed as an unverified user are not shown.
- Check the email address after Connected to Google as.
- Ask the owner of the Search Console property to add this address under Settings, Users and permissions. Restricted access is enough.
- Reload the page in Metrara and choose the site under Search Console site.
5. Your property or site is not in the list
The list shows only what the connected Google account can access. The property belongs to another Google account, or it is a domain property and you are looking for a URL property (or the other way around).
- Open the list and look for both forms of your website, such as sc-domain:example.com and https://www.example.com/.
- If it is missing, connect with the Google account that owns the property: click Disconnect, then Continue with Google.
- Or ask the owner to give the connected account access, as described above.
6. You chose the wrong property or site
- In the Google block, choose the right Analytics property or Search Console site.
- You see Not saved yet: click the button before moving on.
- Click Save and fetch figures. This takes about half a minute.
Wait for Done! Your accounts are connected and your first figures are in. before you leave the page. The Save and fetch figures button stays gray until you change a choice.
7. "Done! Your accounts are connected. Fetching did not fully succeed yet; Metrara retries tonight."
Your choices are saved, but the first fetch failed for at least one source. Often the account has access to the property list but not to the data itself.
- Go to the home page and read the red card One source could not be fetched. It shows which source failed.
- Check that the connected Google account has access to the chosen property or site.
- Open the business and click Refresh figures, or wait for the nightly run.
8. A red error appears under the Google block after connecting
Metrara could not fetch the list of properties or sites from Google. This usually means a permission was not allowed on Google's screen.
- Click Disconnect and confirm. The chosen property and site stay saved.
- Click Continue with Google and allow every permission.
- Choose your property and site and click Save and fetch figures.
9. "The Google connection has expired or was revoked."
The stored access to Google no longer works. For example, the access was removed in the Google account settings, or the Google password was changed.
- Click Disconnect and confirm.
- Click Continue with Google and allow every permission.
- Check that the right property and site are selected and marked Active.
- Click Save and fetch figures if you changed anything.
The same fix applies when the red card on the home page says the Google connection has expired or was revoked.
10. "Remove this company's Google connection?"
This confirmation appears when you click Disconnect. The chosen property and site stay saved, but fetching stops until you connect again.
- Click OK only if you want to stop fetching or reconnect with another account.
- Click Continue with Google to connect again.
11. "... does not have its own Search Console yet."
This business is a language version of another business and has its own domain. Analytics may use the connection of the main business, but Search Console is set per domain. Without its own Search Console property, no SEO figures come in for this domain.
- Open Manage, choose the language version and open Access keys.
- If the block shows Not connected yet, click Continue with Google.
- Under Search Console site, choose the property of this domain.
- Click Save and fetch figures.
A language version without its own domain shows This language uses the Google connection of the main business. It needs no separate connection: figures are filtered per language by URL path.
12. Connecting without signing in to Google (robot user)
Instead of Continue with Google, the agency can give Metrara's robot user read access and enter the IDs by hand. The manual fields appear in the Google block under Manage › Access keys as long as the business is not connected with Google. Client users don't have this option.
- Read the hint in the empty Property ID (numbers only) field. It shows the robot user's email address.
- In Google Analytics, go to Admin, Access management and add that address as a Viewer.
- In Metrara, enter the property ID (numbers only) and click Save.
- In Search Console, go to Settings, Users and permissions and add the same address.
- In Metrara, enter your website in Search Console property and click Save. Metrara looks up the exact property format for you.
- Click Refresh figures on the business.
If the robot user has no access, the fetch fails and the red card on the home page reports that Google denies access. Add the robot user in Google and refresh again.
When a business is connected with Google, Metrara uses that connection and ignores the robot user.
13. Search Console figures lag behind
Search Console runs two to three days behind. This is normal. Metrara fetches the last 30 days every night, so the recent days fill in automatically. See My figures differ from Google Analytics or my webshop.
